CBD oil is all the rage right now. And it’s a so many people are benefiting from the incredible healing properties of cannabidiol oil.
One property of CBD oil that seems to help so many people suffering from illnesses is its anti-inflammatory properties. Issues such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and inflammatory skin issues like psoriasis all seem to respond to CBD oil. But have you ever wondered if it could benefit your pet? Keep reading to find out if CBD oil for pets is an option for your furry friend.
WHAT IS CBD OIL AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
CBD hemp oil is derived from hemp (not marijuana), which is the whole cannabis plant. The cannabis plant has over 60 cannabinoid chemicals, which give it its health properties. Among those cannabinoids is cannabidiol, which is CBD.
The cannabis plant also contains phytocannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids. All of these have a very powerful antioxidant effect in the body.
Humans have specific cannabinoid receptor sites in their cells that respond to these chemicals. Other mammals have these same receptor cells.
The sites that contain these cells are located in the brain and nervous system, but also in the peripheral organs and immune cells. Although the science isn’t yet definitive, studies show that the cannabinoids found in cannabis plants have amazing effects on inflammatory illnesses, and also mood disorders like anxiety. Seizures and other neurological disorders seem to respond positively to CBD oil, too.
Because dogs and cats have similar endocannabinoid systems to humans, reportedly they can also benefit from CBD oil.
CBD oil for pets can even help with injured muscles, like strains during play or post-operative care. If your pet has been taking prescribed medications, it’s possible CBD oil can reduce your pet’s dose or reliance on those drugs.
Most pet owners will notice a positive effect in a short amount of time.
That’s dependent on the dose, and the size of your pet. It also depends on what you’re treating with the CBD oil. But anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of days is usually enough time to notice a benefit.
